    WWE turned all the gimmick matches into annual events trying to cash in on the novelty and now those matches are so common it's no longer a novelty.

    Thank you for this trip down memory lane! I LOVED the IMPACT years (2018 - 2023)! I'm one of the few fans that was excited about Tessa winning the World title. Hell, I was even happier seeing Tessa VS Taya for that very world title a few weeks later. The new TNA has been OK so far. Management decisions have been rocky but at the moment its just IMPACT with a TNA coat so that helps to keep my interest. I hope the company continues to carve out their own space. The whole NXT crossover has me a bit worried and if things go the wrong way I will honestly stop watching wrestling and just go back to watching IMPACT (18-23), SmackDown (04-06) and Attitude Era content.

    I’m not saying this to bash Cody Rhodes but the answer is it was before Cody beat Roman. Now it’s falling a bit from that. Partially because there’s always a dry spell after Mania, partly because Roman is the most popular wrestler they have.

    The background music was a little too loud on the beginning, but great video. Although I don't think every change you talked about in thw video is necessarily a downgrade, some are just different from what it used to be, not better or worse, and some are straight up upgrades, like the punches being less effective nowadays, that is since you should have in mind that guys from Harley Race's time couldn't really do a lot in the ring, so they HAD to protect simpler moves like punches. Nowadays, even a wrestler who's simply alright in ring can do way more than most of the best wrestlers from the 60s and 70s, so punches became less impressive and it doesn't make sense to sell it as very damaging.

    Well, if we look at Hogan during different eras of his career...he either mostly lost to people who were pretty believable threats and/or lost to people that he didn't view as his competition. He had no problem losing to The Rock because of the history he's had with his family, but then Stone Cold Steve Austin's name comes up and Hogan gets on guard because then it becomes a question of who is the biggest star between the two. There's plenty of times where Hogan's ego didn't get in the way, but then there's times where it does.

    There is way more tv, entertainment and media in general competing for viewership today than in 98. Most people also have access to the internet to occupy their time, which wasn't the case in 98, back then if you missed a show you probably weren't going to be able to see it again, now if you miss it you can see whenever you want. A lot of people just watch through highlights/clips rather than watch the whole show on TV. All of this contributes wrestling "not being as popular as it once was". Considering everything I just mentioned it's doing damn fine.

    Noooooooo wrestling is not more popular than ever before. Forget ratings ( which are still important, triple h or Tony would jizz themselves if either drew 8 million viewers). In the attitude era it was different. You would go to the mall and you would see like 20 different people wearing different wrestling shirts. Maybe some wwf, WCW and maybe a select few occasionally wearing ECW, but you would see it. Nowadays the only time a wrestling should I wear gets recognized as if it has a legend from back then. Hey that's stone cold. Hey that's Dusty rhodes. Hey that's Hulk Hogan. The other day I spent an entire week wearing newer wrestlers shirts and not one comment. See even right now even at the best you may draw back some lapsed wrestling fans but you're still not going to draw in the casual viewer. That's what the attitude era was able to do. Even people who didn't like wrestling watched it because of yes the sexy women. I knew people back then who were like yep this wrestling is still stupid but these women are hot. That's why when miss Mercedes Mone takes the time to trash the bra and panties matches from the past, all I could think is they drew more ratings than you ever have. See right now aew has everything The attitude era had the blood, swearing, violence. It shouldn't be doing much better so what is it missing? That Jerry Springer style of television that the attitude era had. Sexy women. And before you say times have changed let me tell you people have not. Guys still like sexy women women and will tune in to see hot chicks.

    In India, wrestling's popularity might be at its lowest in the mainstream. Any random Indian can easily recognize John Cena and Undertaker. Many young indians can even recognize Roman Reigns, Dean And Seth. But it would be very rare if someone recognizes anyone who debuted after them. No one really knows about Cody Rhodes here

    In the US? Probably the Attitude Era and the 80s were better in that regard. Worldwide? Definitely yes. Not just cause of social media bumbers but because of how big of a reach it's gotten in the last 5 to 10 years, specially this decade. WWE weren't even thinking about doing PPVs outaide Canada and the US except for an UK one once every decade; now we've gotten three in the last three years in the UK (counting this year's Clash at the Castle), another one in France and another upcoming in Berlin; all this while teasing a Big 4 event in the future. And on top of that, AEW gathered 70-80k at Wembley Stadium last summer and will likely gather around 50,000 this year. Which imagine telling that to any company in the late 90s or the 2000s, let alone one not named WWF/E. TLDR: It's not in the US, but it's by far on a global scale.

      WCW got higher than that in Korea. And again, 10s of thousands do not compete with millions who aren't watching anymore

    • @zoelotero
      @zoelotero 9 днів тому

      @@DaveKnowsWrestling My point was outside North America, particularly in Europe. Also, the Korea show's attendance was made of people who were forced to watch it under threat of being killed by Kim Jong-Il's regime, so it's not comparable to what AEW did at Wembley (which were a paying audience) or even to what WWE was able to do in Wales for the first Clash at the Castle. The closest thing to it would be SummerSlam '92, and even then that wasn't followed up by any British PPV until One Night Only '97 (and for a stadium show we'd have to go to the aforementioned Clash at the Castle thirty years later); if we take the UK out of the equation I can't even remember the last PPV/PLE any major American company had put in Continental Europe prior to last month's Backlash in Lyon, which had one of the most passionate crowds I can remember in recent times. And to top it all off, they're doing another continental Europe PPV after Summerslam with Bash at Berlin. And as a continental European wrestling fan of 14 years, doing anything other than a House Show at this side of the pond (except for the UK) was unthinkable until two-three years ago (in fact, iirc the only non-house show event they've done was that time RAW was in Milan, and that was almost 20 years ago).
